I am Miguel Jimenez, designer, illustrator, and fine artist. I am meticulous in my creative process, emphasizing research and inspiration to gather an understanding of what it is that I wish to visually convey, for both myself and my clients. Using conventional media (and sometimes digital), I utilize loose and energetic mark making in a cohesive and controlled manner. My style is urban, dreamlike, and geometric, with reoccurring themes of Mexican American culture, liminal space (nepantla), geometry, and overall ambiguity. My style stems from my upbringing (cradle), which was impoverished financially, yet rich in heritage. I was raised to value the non material, to be resilient in my nature, and to be resourceful with that available to me. This translates in my work as it is thought provoking, layered, and possesses classical elements mixed with moments of radical energy. Thus evoking a feeling which is cold, echoes and is ambiguous. My work has a conversation with the past and the subconscious, vaguely familiar like the fleeting memory of a dream once woken.
